The Pauni family moved to Utah from Tonga in 1991 to give the members of the family a better life and educational opportunities. In 2004, husband/father Danny Pauni died of a heart attack, leaving his wife Janet, their nine children and live-in nephew struggling emotionally and financially. For the past two years the family has run four businesses to keep afloat.
Despite their personal and financial needs, the family is involved in numerous community activities. The children participate in volunteer activities for the youth in the community and offer services for the elderly. Janet runs a traditional Tongan catering business, but also cooks and delivers food to needy families in the neighborhood. According to builder Kartchner, residents of Logan should be eager to help serve the needs of a family that has volunteered its time to making the city a better place to live.
